Belgium with kids, for us, is close to home: two Landal parks in Limburg, a week in the Belgian Eifel, and the Ardennes, where we keep coming back. This year we spent 4.5 weeks there, in September. Zutendaal is 2.5 hours from Utrecht, Tellin in the Ardennes 3 hours 22 minutes.

Landal in Belgium with kids
Landal Mooi Zutendaal: houses of over 100 square metres with a private garden and a washing machine (more important to us than a big pool), not car-free, and the Lieteberg barefoot trail around the corner. Landal Park Eksel is small, the kids scoot to the playground and the shop on their own, though more cars drive onto the park than "car-free" suggests, and you hear the fighter jets from the air base. Center Parcs De Vossemeren is a day out from Eksel.
The Ardennes with kids
In the Belgian Ardennes with kids, where you stay decides what you do. We stayed in the centre (Tellin, with the Caves of Han, Chevetogne and Redu within 25 minutes), earlier in the north (Houffalize and Center Parcs Les Ardennes, with Parc Chlorophylle), and drove through the wilder south around Bouillon and the Semois. Five of our eight days out were free.
