Landal Mooi Zutendaal with kids: space and summer comfort

Landal Mooi Zutendaal lies just across the Belgian border, surrounded by forest and heathland. For travellers from the Netherlands, it is surprisingly close. From Utrecht, you can be there in about two and a half hours, making it an easy choice for a longer stay without the feeling of a long journey.

What immediately stands out here is space. Both inside the houses and across the park itself, everything feels generous. After spending time in smaller accommodations, having over a hundred square metres to live in makes a real difference. There is room to spread out, to settle in properly, and to feel at home rather than temporary.

A park built around comfort and privacy

Landal Mooi Zutendaal does not rely on spectacle. There is no large waterpark or packed entertainment schedule. Instead, the focus is clearly on comfortable accommodation and a calm, green setting.

The houses vary widely, from simple cabins to luxury villas with private jacuzzis. Our accommodation sat comfortably in between. Spacious living areas, proper bedrooms, a well-equipped kitchen and, importantly, a private garden that quickly became an extension of the house.

Having a washing machine was a small but very welcome detail, especially during a longer stay. One practical downside was limited storage space on the ground floor. Toys, games and everyday family clutter had no obvious place, which meant some things stayed in bags rather than being put away.

Parking directly next to the house was convenient, although it does mean the park is not car-free. With younger children, that requires a bit more awareness when they are playing outside.

Outdoor living comes naturally here

What Landal Mooi Zutendaal does particularly well is encouraging outdoor time. Gardens are spacious, the park itself feels open, and the surrounding nature is always close.

During warm summer days, life naturally moved outside. Children played freely between houses and playgrounds, water games filled the afternoons, and evenings stretched out in the garden. The outdoor playground is large, well designed and suitable for a wide range of ages.

Indoor facilities are more modest. There is an indoor swimming pool and a small indoor play area, best suited for short bursts of activity rather than long visits. During hot weather, we barely felt the need to use them.

Exploring the area around Zutendaal

The wider area is ideal for relaxed exploration. Forest paths, heathland and open stretches make it well suited for walking and cycling.

Mechelse Heide

One of the highlights nearby is the Mechelse Heide, part of the Hoge Kempen National Park. Cycling or walking through this landscape gives you a good sense of the region. Wide views, quiet paths and enough variation to keep things interesting, without feeling demanding. It is not dramatic or rugged, but that is part of its appeal. Landal has a lot of different type of bikes that you can rent!

Blotevoetenpad Lieteberg

Another memorable outing was the barefoot trail at Lieteberg. The trail is longer and more elaborate than you might expect, with changing surfaces, water sections, balance elements and height differences.

For our youngest, some sections required a bit of guidance, especially where water made the surface slippery. What we appreciated, though, was that the trail offers alternatives. If a section felt too intense, such as deeper muddy water, there was often a parallel path that was still exciting, but less overwhelming. That made it manageable without taking away the sense of adventure.

Along the way, we also climbed a lookout tower for views over the surrounding landscape. The children were eager to go all the way up, while the adults discovered their limits at the top level. Height won that round, but the view made the climb more than worth it.

Overall, the barefoot trail felt thoughtfully designed, engaging for different ages, and especially refreshing on warm days.

Eating, relaxing and keeping it simple

On the park itself, the brasserie stood out in a positive way. We ate there once and were pleasantly surprised by the quality. It felt relaxed and unfussy, fitting the overall atmosphere of the park.

More than anything, this was a place where days did not need much structure. Meals together, time outside, children playing independently, and conversations that naturally lasted into the evening. The lack of constant entertainment made those moments more visible rather than less.

Does Landal Mooi Zutendaal work for families?

Yes, especially for families who value space, comfort and togetherness over organised entertainment.

Landal Mooi Zutendaal suits longer stays well. It is a place where you live rather than visit, where children have room to play independently and adults can enjoy the calm that comes with having their own space.

Practical takeaways
  • Easy to reach from the Netherlands, about 2.5 hours from Utrecht
  • Spacious houses with private gardens, ideal for longer stays
  • Washing machine is a big plus for families
  • Limited storage space on the ground floor
  • Outdoor playground and nature access are strong points
  • Indoor facilities are modest and better suited as a backup
  • Park is not car-free, extra awareness needed with young children

Landal Mooi Zutendaal is not a park that tries to entertain you at every turn. Instead, it offers space, comfort and a natural rhythm that allows family life to unfold easily.

For us, it worked as a summer stop where nothing needed to be rushed and where being together mattered more than filling the day.

We also stayed at Landal Park Eksel, another small-scale Belgian Landal park with a similar focus on freedom and outdoor play.
